DESCRIPTION:In 1991\, Candelas\, de la Ossa\, Green\, and Parkes calculate
 d the instanton predictions for the quintic threefold and this started an 
 exciting new endeavor by the name of mirror symmetry. Later\, physical arg
 uments gave rise to a more geometric picture of mirror symmetry\, known as
  the SYZ conjecture. In this talk we shall explore this conjecture\, and l
 earn about the general strategy of the Gross-Siebert program and how it is
  motivated. Time-permitting we’ll then see how tropical geometry natural
 ly comes into the picture\, and how nice it is to play with tropical curve
 s.
