DESCRIPTION:Molecular self-assembly at surfaces is a powerful concept for
surface functionalisation and formation of ultraprecise structures. In com
bination with electrochemistry\, strategies based on chemisorption from so
lution and supramolecular chemistry offer new routes to low dimensional sy
stems and templated generation of structures. Discussing examples of elect
rochemical metal deposition and metal-organic coordination\, both opportun
ities and challenges of self-assembly concepts will be illustrated.
