DESCRIPTION:Recent heat waves and flooding events have generated popular v
iews that European climate is changing due to human influences. Attributin
g cause in a chaotic climate system can be difficult. In my talk I will di
scuss how climate change can be attributed to different causes. I will the
n apply this approach to changes in warm and cold season temperature and p
recipitation for two European regions. This work finds that combined human
and natural influences are robustly detectable in temperature and in Nort
hern European cold season precipitation changes. Natural only influences o
n European climate are not robustly detected. This work also suggests that
changes in winter precipitation are under estimated in current climate mo
 dels.
