DESCRIPTION:Approaches to Egyptian archaeology from a geological perspecti
 ve have until recently been confined to hard rock quarry sites. This talk 
 will concentrate on sedimentology and the (sometimes startling) insights t
 o be gained from aspects of environmental change thrown up from the sedime
 nt record\, using the data from Memphis (the pharaonic capital) as a case 
 study.
