DESCRIPTION:W-algebras form a large family of vertex algebras associated t
o nilpotent orbits of simple Lie algebras. They provide an additional fram
ework to study the representations of certain infinite dimensional Lie alg
ebras. Indeed\, W-algebras can be obtained from the latter by applying cer
tain quantized Hamiltonian reductions. It is believed that most of the tim
e the reduction procedure can be reversed to reconstruct the representatio
ns of the underling affine Lie algebra.\nIn this talk\, we will discuss in
verse reductions as well as their consequences on the representation theor
y based on examples in small ranks. The talk reports on a recent paper wit
 h T. Creutzig\, A. Linshaw and N. Nakatsuka and ongoing work with C. Raymo
 nd and D. Ridout.
