DESCRIPTION:We will illustrate the versatility of Shannon entropy as a too
l providing insight into central basic questions in several fields of pure
mathematics\, through four instances (among many more choices): the centr
al limit theorem (probability)\, the structure of union-closed families (c
ombinatorics)\, the structure of sets of integers with small sumset (numbe
r theory)\, and bounds on volumes of sets depending on those of their proj
 ections (geometry).
