DESCRIPTION:PPM (Prediction by Partial Match) is a family of techniques fo
r language modelling and text compression which have been used extensively
in programs such as Dasher. I'll review the algorithm and some of the var
iations\, highlight some of the issues\, and talk about the relation to hi
erarchical Dirichlet processes and how we might use these to improve upon
PPM's weaknesses.\n\nThis is early work very much "in progress" so the tal
k may be short in order to leave plenty of time for audience participation
  - questions and hopefully suggestions!
