DESCRIPTION:Quantum symmetries can be described as tensor categories of bi
 modules associated to a subfactor. I will explain how various ways of cons
 tructing subfactors lead to interesting quantum symmetries and a natural n
 otion of degrees of noncommutativity for subfactors. The latter provides u
 nexpected examples of quantum channels with surprising properties.
