SUMMARY:Ferromagnetic fibre networks and their possible application for ma
gneto-mechanical stimulation of bone growth - Athina Markaki\, Department
 of Engineering\, University of Cambridge
DTSTART:20100311T160000Z

CONTACT:Stephen Walley
DESCRIPTION:For networks based on fibres of ferromagnetic materials\, such
as ferritic stainless steels\, it has been proposed that applications cou
ld be developed involving magnetic actuation\, an example being the stimul
ation of bone growth via the application of a magnetic field. The talk wi
ll focus on the modelling and experimental work done up to date to establi
sh whether magneto-mechanical Actuation of Ferromagnetic Fibre Networks sh
ows promise as a new therapeutic approach to address the problem of orthop
 aedic implant loosening.
