SUMMARY:T cell responses to EBV: viral evasion\, antigen immunodominance a
nd priming - Professor Alan Rickinson\, University of Birmingham

DESCRIPTION:Our work focuses on Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)\, a human gamma-h
erpesvirus with B cell growth-transforming ability that is the causative a
gent of a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disease\, infectious mononucle
osis\, and is aetiologically linked to a range of lymphoid and epithelial
malignancies. \n\nBesides studying these disease associations\, our more
basic interests include the mechanisms of EBV persistence and immune evasi
on in the immune host. The seminar will cover the basic immunology of EBV
infection\, including recent work on antigen choice for CD4 and CD8 T cell
responses and the effect of immune evasion on that choice.
