DESCRIPTION:Building and delivering a web service is very different from d
elivering a desktop application\, but it's increasingly common that's how
users expect services to be driven. This is the approach we took at Camvin
e when building our CODA digital signage platform. Rather than deliver som
ething written to run on a single machine in a single language for a singl
e environment\, we've ended up using four languages (down from five at one
point)\, multiple test suites (which doesn't cover nearly enough)\, havin
g more interfaces than you can shake a stick at\, and having to support ma
ny environments (or browsers\, as they seem to be called). \n\nThis talk c
overs how we at Camvine went about building our system\, some of the issue
s we've battled\, and hopefully will highlight some areas that could be po
tentially interesting areas for research. I'll also endeavour to avoid dis
cussing too much how customers expect you to deliver cutting edge technolo
gy on their 9 year old web browser...\n
