DESCRIPTION:CGHR recently launched a new research theme: Global Experience
 s of Algorithmic Governance. This theme draws attention to the lived reali
 ties of algorithmic governance\, specifically how agency and discretion ma
 nifest in algorithmic systems and how people respond to algorithmic domina
 tion. In this theme launch event\, CGHR Postdoctoral Scholar Dr Ashwin Var
 ghese will present his work on e-governance and ‘smart’ policing in Ke
 rala where he engages with questions of discretion of subordinate police p
 ersonnel and explores whether the state of Kerala is experimenting with an
  alternate model of algorithmic governance.
