DESCRIPTION:Bioelectronic medicine provides a new means of addressing dise
ase via the electrical stimulation of tissues: Deep brain stimulation\, fo
r example\, has shown exceptional promise in the treatment of neurological
and neuropsychiatric disorders\, while stimulation of peripheral nerves i
s being explored to treat autoimmune disorders. To bring these technologie
s to patients at scale\, however\, significant challenges remain to be add
ressed. Key among these is our ability to establish stable and efficient i
nterfaces between electronics and the human body. I will show examples of
how this can be achieved using new materials and devices engineered to com
municate with the body and evolve with it.\n\nTalks are priced at £4 for
non-Scientific Society members. Scientific Society members will have free
access to all our talks. Lifetime membership costs £15 and gives free acc
ess to all talks\, members-only events and priority access to oversubscrib
 ed SciSoc events.
