DESCRIPTION:Speaker bio\n \nDavid is a PhD student in the Use Less Group.
His research is focused on reducing scrap metal in the automotive industry
. David graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2022 with an MEng an
d spent one year working at a church before re-joining the department. He
is just beginning the second year of his PhD.\n\n\nAbstract\n\nCar parts a
re often made from sheet metal using deep drawing. This is a reliable and
efficient process\, but it has scrap rates of close to 50%. Over the past
few years\, the Use Less Group has been developing a less wasteful process
called Folding-Shearing. This talk explains the Folding-Shearing process
and recent developments\, including a method to extend the process to a ne
 w class of geometries.\n\n\n
