DESCRIPTION:In order to explain limitations of the standard model theories
often introduce exotic long-lived particles (LLPs)\, these have weak coup
lings to standard model particles such that they may escape detection at t
ypical detectors close to the beamline. This has led to large programme of
dedicated LLP experiments to develop over the last decade or so\, which a
im to capitalise on vast regions of uncovered parameter space. One such pr
oposal is that of the COmpact Detector for EXotics at LHCb (CODEX-b)\, a m
oderately sized detector to be located close to the LHCb experiment. This
talk will give an overview of the CODEX-b detector and its proposed aims\,
as well as discussing work undertaken on testing of essential detector co
mponents and track reconstruction studies to help inform and affirm the pl
anned design of CODEX-b through the construction of a demonstrator\, CODEX
 -β.
