DESCRIPTION:People are fluent in non-verbally negotiating group interactio
n to decide who will speak and about what by adjusting their posture and p
osition. How people do this has been well documented in the social science
research area\, interaction analysis. As designers and engineers\, we cre
ate tools that unintentionally\, or occasionally intentionally\, affect ho
w groups can interact by changing what non-verbal behaviours are available
to the people in them. This talk covers some of the theory of non-verbal
group interaction from interaction analysis and looks at how it might be a
pplied to the design of technology and facilitation techniques.
