SUMMARY:A look into the cell’s warehouse with metabolomics - Sara Dietz

DESCRIPTION:After deciphering the human genome in the late 90s\, scientist
s thought to be truly close to understanding the molecular processes in a
single cell. But since then it became clear that the genome alone\, a pure
building plan of a cell\, does not tell you which part of it is actually
used e.g. which genes are functional and when. To answer this question\, t
he field of systems biology emerged concerned to characterise cellular fun
ction on every level. Metabolomic studies aim to give a precise overview o
f the metabolomic status and global biochemical events in a biological sys
tem associated with environmental factors and diseases. This talk will gi
ve an introduction to the field of metabolomics as well as its application
in the study of brain cancer.
