DESCRIPTION:The Arctic is warming at four times the global average and con
current with warming\, satellite observations show a greening of the land
surface. Remote sensing provides essential insights into broad-scale ecolo
gical dynamics in the Arctic\, but can also contribute to environmental na
rratives that do not always correspond with observations from the field. H
ere I discuss Arctic greening\, and introduce ongoing projects that explor
e top-down and bottom-up drivers of terrestrial vegetation change across m
 ultiple scale domains.
