DESCRIPTION:This Cambridge Immunology and Medicine Seminar will take place
on Friday 8 November 2024\, starting at 1:00pm\, in the Ground Floor Lect
ure Theatre\, Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre (JCBC)\n\nSpeaker: Dr Marty
Taylor\, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine\, Brown
University\n\nBio: Marty Taylor is a clinician-scientist working to build
a molecular understanding of the human LINE-1 transposon (L1) and leverage
transposon biology into novel strategies for early diagnosis\, prevention
\, and treatment of cancer and autoimmunity. His recent Nature paper (Natu
re. 2024 PMID: 38096902) revealed the first structures of the key L1 ORF2
reverse transcriptase\, and provided key mechanistic insights into L1 poly
merization and insertion\, enabling rational drug development. In his new
laboratory at Brown University\, his team are dissecting LINE mechanism an
 d pathophysiology\, building a detailed molecular understanding of L1:host
interactions and their consequences\, and leveraging these insights into
novel diagnostics and therapeutics.\n\nTalk Title: “Structure and Mechan
isms of LINE-1 retrotransposons: an Emerging Cancer Target”\n\nHost: Pau
l Lehner\, CITIID \, Department of Medicine\n\nRefreshments will be availa
 ble following the Seminar.
