DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nThe main goal of this talk is to provide a review 
 of the current state of affairs in researching and managing heritage in Ce
 ntral Asia – a vast part of Asia comprising five post-Soviet states. The
  speaker\, himself from Central Asia\, has worked extensively in the regio
 n both before and after completing a PhD on heritage and its interaction w
 ith nation-building efforts. The talk is envisioned as a discussion sessio
 n\, posing more questions than answers\, and aims to raise awareness of th
 e issues from the perspectives of both heritage management and critical he
 ritage studies in relation to the region. Current political considerations
  in the region will serve as a backdrop to these discussions. \n\n\nBio: \
 nDr Gai Jorayev is currently an Assistant Professor in culture and heritag
 e management at the Macao University of Tourism. He has extensive experien
 ce in archaeology and heritage management\, tourism development and planni
 ng\, and digital heritage\, and worked with complex and transformational d
 evelopment and research projects since 2001. He recently carried out proje
 cts in post-Soviet space\, Asia\, Africa and European Union\, and he curre
 ntly collaborates closely with several international organisations such as
  UNESCO\, ICOMOS\, UNWTO and EBRD in their activities in Central Asia. He 
 is currently a Co-PI of Central Asian Archaeological Landscapes (CAAL) pro
 ject which works across six countries on an unprecedented scale with the a
 im of developing an open-access geospatial database for diverse stakeholde
 rs. He currently serves as the president of the ICOMOS International Scien
 tific Committee on AeroSpace Heritage. During the past years\, Gai has led
  postgraduate degree programmes in Managing Archaeological Sites and Cultu
