DESCRIPTION:Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) began in 1956. J
apanese Antarctic research icebreaker Shirase has engaged in the transport
ing cargoes and scientists in order to operate and maintain the Japanese A
ntarctic research station Syowa since 2009. In order to ensure its safe vo
yage in Antarctic Ocean\, the motions of the icebreaker Shirase and the ic
e conditions are monitored.\nThis research presents monitoring data of the
icebreaker Shirase during its voyage in the 55th Japanese Antarctic Resea
rch Expedition (JARE 55) from December 2013 to February 2014. The icebreak
er Shirase encountered in various ice conditions such as pack ice\, level
ice\, and multi-year ice in JARE55. The ship structural response of the sh
oulder hull and the bow deck in those sea ice conditions was investigated.
The relationship between the structural response and the ice conditions o
f Shirase in Antarctic Sea ice are discussed.\n\n\n
