DESCRIPTION:To obtain the most information about exoplanet atmospheres it
is important to use the fullest extent of the available wavelength range.
For example\, direct imaging is a tried and tested method of detecting exo
planets in the near infrared\, but has not been extended to longer wavelen
gths from the ground\, despite these wavelengths offering a treasure trove
of information and the fact that large ground-based telescopes are capabl
e of routinely producing diffraction limited images at these wavelengths.
At the same time\, characterisation can also be done with transmission spe
ctroscopy and JWST is opening up new possibilities in both the near and mi
d infrared. However\, these observations can be hard to interpret without
optical data for reference. In this talk I will discuss the possibilities
of ground-based mid-IR direct imaging and the benefits of optical waveleng
ths to complement JWST transmission spectrum results to show the benefits
 of broad wavelength coverage.
