DESCRIPTION:Recently\, Kielak and Linton gave a homological characterisati
 on of virtually free-by-cyclic groups among hyperbolic virtually compact s
 pecial groups. As a consequence\, one-relator groups with torsion are virt
 ually free-by-Z\, resolving an old problem of Baumslag's. In this talk\, w
 e will discuss a similar characterisation in the larger class of RFRS grou
 ps and present some new applications.
