DESCRIPTION:The application of classic analytic constitutive models to the
analysis of the Taylor rod-impact test will be outlined. The present use
of the Taylor test in validating modern non-analytic constitutive models i
n finite element codes is reviewed. Recent modifications to the original e
xperimental configuration have extended the application of the test to mat
erials with more complex mechanical behaviour than fully dense metals. Exa
mples include polymers\, brittle materials and metal foams.
