DESCRIPTION:While Carroll geometry has exciting potential applications in
the context of flat space holography\, we can also consider an ultra-local
small-speed-of-light Carroll limits in gravity itself. At first\, this ma
y seem like an esoteric thing to do\, compared to for example the non-rela
tivistic expansion of gravity. However\, as it turns out\, Carroll limits
in GR lead to remarkable simplifications. In this talk\, I will connect th
ese limits to BKL limits of gravity\, which similarly describe solvable an
d rich dynamics\, in the vicinity of singularities. BKL limits have recent
ly reappeared in the context of AdS/CFT\, and I will reproduce some of tho
se models from matter-coupled Carroll gravity. Finally\, I will discuss so
me ongoing work on how systematic Carroll approximations of gravity can be
used to go beyond existing near-singularity limits.
