DESCRIPTION:Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in t
he Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane conductance Regulator (CFTR). CFTR belon
gs to the ATP-Binding Cassette (ABC) transporter family\, but uniquely fun
ctions as an ion channel to regulate salt and fluid homeostasis. In this t
alk\, I will discuss the molecular details of how CFTR functions\, the str
uctural and functional defects caused by mutations\, and how drug molecule
s act to revert these defects.
LOCATION:In person in the Max Perutz Lecture Theatre (CB2 0QH) and via Zoo
