DESCRIPTION:In this joint work with Luc Devroye\, Louigi Addario-Berry and
Nicolas\nBroutin\, we study a class of hypothesis testing problems in whi
ch\,\nupon observing the realization of an n-dimensional Gaussian vector\,
\none has to decide whether the vector was drawn from a standard normal\nd
istribution or\, alternatively\, whether there is a subset of the\ncompone
nts belonging to a certain given class of sets whose elements\nhave been ?
 contaminated\,? that is\, have a mean different from zero. We\nestablish s
ome general conditions under which testing is possible and\nothers under w
hich testing is hopeless with a small risk. The\ncombinatorial and geometr
ic structure\nof the class of sets is shown to play a crucial role. The bo
 unds are\nillustrated on various examples.\n\nhttp://www.barcelonagse.eu/F
