DESCRIPTION:Addressing persistent global health disparities requires prior
itizing diverse representation in clinical trials as both a scientific nec
essity and an ethical obligation. Scientifically\, diverse participation e
nables a more comprehensive understanding of how genetic\, environmental\,
and socio-economic factors impact disease progression and treatment effic
acy across populations. Ethically\, it ensures equitable access to the ben
efits of medical research\, particularly for populations historically marg
inalized or disproportionately burdened by disease.\n\nThis talk will expl
ore: (1) the multifactorial drivers of diverse threatening conditions\, wi
th case studies in genetic conditions such as Crohn’s disease\, Cystic F
ibrosis\, sickle cell disease\, and cancer\, as well as infectious disease
s caused by parasites (e.g.\, Human African Trypanosomiasis and malaria)\,
viruses\, and bacteria\; (2) the consequences of underrepresentation in c
linical trials\, including skewed data and ineffective or harmful treatmen
ts for certain populations\; and (3) my faith and pioneering work in publi
c health\, underpinned by my contributions to evolutionary systems biology
and translational research\, and how it exemplifies the transformative po
tential of inclusive clinical practices and advancing precision medicine f
 or all.
