DESCRIPTION:Engineering has changed the world. But global temperatures are
rising due to human action and emissions reduction is not sufficient to p
rotect vulnerable people and places from the worst effects of climate chan
ge. What if engineering could help cool the planet?\n\n🌍 The loss of Ar
ctic sea ice is a global issue. The bright white ice reflects solar radiat
ion back into space\, cooling the planet\; as it gets warmer\, the reflect
ive ice is replaced by dark ocean water and cooling effect is diminished.
It’s a vicious loop - global warming accelerates melting\, and the melti
ng accelerates global warming.\n\nOver the past few decades\, the Arctic h
as experienced unprecedented rates of warming\, nearly three times the glo
bal average. This rapid warming has led to significant reductions in sea i
ce extent and thickness\, with dire consequences not only for the Arctic e
cosystem but for global climate stability.\n\n🧊 What if we could make m
ore ice? This is a big question researchers at the University of Cambridge
\, along with Real Ice\, are hoping to answer. Join us on 27 February at 1
pm to hear from engineers who spent time in the Arctic this month testing
solutions to a warming Arctic.\n\n*Engineering for the Climate\, a seminar
series from University of Cambridge and Centre for Climate Repair. \nLR4\
 , Department of Engineering. \n30 Jan\, 13 Feb\, 27 Feb\, 13 Mar 2025.\nFr
ee to attend and open to all.*\nhttps://www.climaterepair.cam.ac.uk/events
