DESCRIPTION:How did a diaspora community that was geographically dispersed
\, and whose members did not share the same religion and ethnicity\, creat
e a collective identity? While being open to engage with the larger world
it traveled through and incorporating new community members\, the Manangi
trading community from Northern Nepal was conscious of its boundary at any
point in time\; its members had a precise awareness of who belonged to th
e community. This talk explores how intangible cultural heritage such as c
ollective praying rituals as well as construction of religious monuments c
reated the social and material conditions that enabled this diasporic trad
ing community to reproduce itself across a vast geographical space and gen
 erations. \n\nMeeting link: https://bit.ly/3E0WGkS\n\nTeams MeetingID:371
