DESCRIPTION:Questionnaire and test development involves both qualitative a
nd quantitative aspects. Experimental and survey design each make very hig
h demands in regard to replicability and accuracy\, and psychometric metho
dology aims to maximize both of these properties in our research tools. Th
is session addresses the process of developing an assessment instrument. T
he stages: defining the purpose\, building the specification\, item and qu
 estion writing\, the pilot study\, item analysis\, assessing reliability\,
obtaining evidence of validity\, deciding what needs to go into the manua
l\, are all examined from a practical perspective. At the end of this sess
ion you should have a reasonable idea about how to construct your own test
\, and a familiarity with common pitfalls and procedures.
