DESCRIPTION:Buried and submerged landscapes in the lowlands of the Netherl
ands play a key role in debates on the introduction of farming. First envi
saged as too wet for human subsistence\, it is becoming more and more clea
r that these dynamic landscapes were in fact highly suitable for agricultu
re\, and indeed used for crop cultivation. New geophysical data\, excavati
ons\, soil micromorphology analyses and other scientific approaches togeth
er show a new\, complex image of wetland subsistence during the transition
to farming.\n\n\nBio:\n\nProf. Dr. Ir Hans (D.J.) Huisman\n\nSenior resea
rcher\, Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands\; Professor of geoarch
aeology and archaeometry\, University of Groningen\n\nHans Huisman is a ge
oarchaeologist and archaeometrist. With a background in soil science and g
eochemistry\, he applies scientific approaches and methods on a wide range
of archaeological subjects. Major fields of interest are preservation and
monitoring of archaeological sites\, manufacture and trade of artefacts\,
(esp. metal and glass)\, use of space and wetland agriculture.\n\nPlease
