DESCRIPTION:Summary/Blurb:\n\nThe way that hunter-gatherer groups interact
with each other and build their networks is one of the\nhottest topics in
archaeology worldwide. The study of mobility offers the unique opportunit
y to tackle it\nfocusing on the actors. This talk is meant to share the ex
periences of using widely used biomolecular\ntools (oxygen and strontium i
sotopes)\, powerful analytical approaches (machine learning isoscaping and
\nprobabilistic assignment)\, and material culture to study paleomobility
in the southernmost region of\nAmerica\, the Patagonia region.\n\nBio:\n\n
Alejandro Serna is an Argentinian archaeologist\, part of the Museum of La
Plata in Argentina. He has a\ndeep interest in South American past\, biom
olecular methods\, and quantitative techniques applied to\nvarious records
. During his PhD research on hunter-gatherer ethnicity\, he received labor
atory and\nanalytical training at institutions worldwide\, including the U
niversity of Cape Town\, the University of\nUtah\, and the University of O
ttawa. After conducting isotope forensics on US soldier remains at the\nUn
iversity of Utah\, he joined the University of York to pursue his Marie Cu
rie project on early\nPatagonian technological development and dispersion
through organic residue analysis. He is currently a\nLecturer in Archaeolo
gy at the University of Glasgow and is transitioning to a position at the
British\nMuseum\, where he will engage in the biomolecular analysis of Afr
ican forager pottery.\n\nPlease join us in-person in the McDonald Institut
e seminar room or join online.\n\nhttps://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-joi
