DESCRIPTION:This powerful documentary explores the history and challenges
of the world's largest tropical wetland.\n\nFeaturing insights from scient
ists\, Indigenous leaders\, and local communities\, the film highlights th
e climate crisis\, agricultural shifts\, and the transformation of the Cer
rado\, all of which are disrupting the region’s water cycle.\n\nThe fil
m stars Department of Geography Masters in Conservation Leadership alumna
Luciana Leite - now with the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) - as o
ne of its highlighted environmentalists.\n\n“In addition to reflecting m
uch of what I learned on conservation during my time at the University of
Cambridge\, the documentary reveals how we\, humans\, continue to indiscri
minately alter natural landscapes like the Pantanal\, the world's largest
wetland\, negatively impacting the environment and all its inhabitants –
both human and non-human. At the same time\, the film also sends a messag
e of hope\, showing that this destruction can be stopped\, if we put our m
inds\, hearts\, funds and efforts towards it"\, says Luciana Leite.\n\nTh
e screening\, hosted by the MPhil in Conservation Leadership team\, will c
onclude with a discussion\, offering attendees a chance to meet Luciana an
d engage with panelists on environmental issues and the\nrole of communica
tion in combating the climate crisis. Undergraduate members of the departm
ent are very welcome to attend.
