DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \n\nAutonomous driving marks a transformative era in
transportation\, yet the challenge of developing systems that can adeptly
navigate the unpredictable complexities of mixed traffic scenarios is sig
nificant. A key concern is the limited social and situational awareness\,
along with the inability to communicate both implicitly and explicitly wi
th other road users\, including pedestrians and human drivers\, this talk
discusses the complexities of human behavior modeling\, including data-dri
ven approaches and Virtual Reality (VR) studies as complementary methods.
It highlights the challenges of integrating social context into AV decisio
n-making and the limitations of the current model. The talk covers both fu
ndamental and emerging approaches to modeling pedestrian-AV interactions a
nd explores future directions for improving socially aware AVs. It conclud
es with a discussion of the broader implications of this research for the
 safety\, trust\, and acceptance of AVs in mixed-traffic environments.\n\nS
peakers bio:\n\nFarzeen Munir is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Mobile R
obotics Group in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation a
t Aalto University in Espoo\, Finland. She is also affiliated with the Fin
nish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI). In 2022\, she obtained her
doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the G
wangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in South Korea. Her rese
arch focuses on machine learning\, deep neural networks\, autonomous drivi
ng\, and representation learning\, with a strong emphasis on developing in
 telligent systems for real-world applications.\n
