DESCRIPTION:The theory of random Hamiltonians\nwas initiated by future Nob
el laureates Mott and Anderson in the late 1950's\, largely at the Cavendi
sh\,\nand is still a hot topic in both theoretical and\nmathematical physi
cs.\n\nUntil 2008\, the literature in this field focused on a\nsingle-part
icle case\; even highly imaginative physicists rarely ventured to consider
what happens to two or more particles. Recent results on multi-particle s
ystems (in which I took some modest part) provided a rare example where ri
gorous mathematical thinking overtook\, at least for a while\, libertarian
\nphysical reasoning. The talk focuses on these developments\; no specific
knowledge of Probability\nTheory or Quantum Mechanics is expected from th
 e\naudience.\n
