DESCRIPTION:Local finite group theory has been an important topic\, partic
 ularly via the Classification of Finite Simple Groups. Fusion systems have
  helped simplify and extend much of the theory in the last 20 years and ar
 e starting to link group theory\, representation theory\, and algebraic to
 pology. I will give an overview of some key ideas\, introduce some example
 s\, and discuss some of my results in the areas.
