DESCRIPTION:Low-level jets (LLJs) play a crucial role in snow redistributi
on over ice shelves\, sea-ice dynamics\, and ocean circulation variability
. To better understand these impacts\, we analyzed LLJs using radiosonde p
rofiles measured during the late austral summer over the coastal region of
the Amundsen Sea Embayment. Additionally\, we assessed the performance of
the polar-optimized Weather Research and Forecasting (Polar WRF) model in
simulating the observed LLJs and their generation mechanisms. Our finding
s indicate that katabatic winds and their enhancement by synoptic forcing
are the key factors of LLJ formation in this region.
