DESCRIPTION:This workshop will consider recent debates around the ethics o
 f longtermism and human extinction and their role within the field of Exis
 tential Risk Studies. Each talk will provide a deep and engage reflection 
 on common positions within the field and the debates that surround them\, 
 calling for a richer\, more sophisticated discourse about the possible rea
 sons for caring about human extinction and giving (or not giving) it prior
 ity over other pressing global challenges. Each session will be split betw
 een a short talk and question and answer session\, with a closing round ta
 ble discussion. Some papers will be pre-circulated before the session to a
