SUMMARY:Plant-induced weathering and climate change: Insight from non-trad
itional stable isotopes - Dr Albert Galy\, Department of Earth Sciences\,

DESCRIPTION:At geological time scale\, the Earth’s surface has recorded
temperature changes in the order of a couple of 10ºC\, a narrow change co
mpared to what is known for other planets like Venus and Mars. These tempe
rature changes can be understood from chemical weathering of silicate rock
s by the atmospheric CO2 as well as biologically enhanced weathering. Dr G
aly will highlight how the balance of two isotopes of Calcium – 44Ca and
42Ca – can be used to monitor and understand climate changes in the pas
 t. This knowledge is highly important if we want to predict future climate
\, and more importantly\, understand and influence global warming.
