DESCRIPTION:This talk will explore how a selection of 19th- and 20th-centu
 ry mathematicians\, stemming from distinct scientific cultures\, approache
 d the task of defining\, constructing\, and representing geometrical curve
 s. It will then relate these approaches to local epistemic ideals and rese
 arch programmes\, and interrogate the historiographical effects one might
 expect from focusing on practices of objectivity\, especially as it pertai
 ns to the identification of continuities and discontinuities across mathem
 atical theories and disciplines.&nbsp\;
