DESCRIPTION:The telescope conjecture is an attempt to describe elementary
pieces of the stable homotopy category\, the T(n)-local categories\, in te
rms of something more computable\, the K(n)-localization. I will discuss h
ow what we now know affects our picture of telescopic localization\, and d
escribe some possible future directions towards understanding structural a
nd computational aspects of the stable homotopy category.
