DESCRIPTION:Low back pain will affect most adults at some stage in their l
 ife and accounts for more sick leave and disability than any other single 
 medical condition.  This talk will discuss the background of low back pain
  caused by degenerative disc disease and herniated discs\, the current sur
 gical solutions and the problems associated with these surgical solutions.
   The talk will then focus on a novel elastomeric total disc replacement i
 mplant and ongoing research into improving the biological fixation of the 
 implant by application of a calcium phosphate coating to the endplates at 
 low temperatures in a concentrated “simulated body fluid” solution.\n
