DESCRIPTION:SJC//JCR Ethical Affairs\, and CUSU Green Week 2010 are proud
to host:\n\n*Prof Guillebaud from the Optimum Population Trust*\n\nThis is
set to be an eye-opening\, possibly controversial\, talk\, on the require
d change in an aspect of life that does not always come to mind when think
ing of the environment.\n\nSome information from the OPT:\n\nThe world's p
opulation is expected to grow by another 2.3 billion\, from 6.8 billion in
2010 to 9.15 billion in 2050.\n\nHuman consumption of renewable resources
is already overshooting Earth's capacity to provide. Resources are becomi
ng scarcer and the number of hungry people increasing year by year.\n\nRev
ersing population growth is one of the measures needed to ensure environme
ntal survival. It can be done by voluntary and peaceful means\, given a po
litical and individual will to act without delay.\n\nPolitically\, governm
ents can give urgent attention and increased resources to providing access
to contraception and education to the estimated 200 million women worldwi
de who need and want it.\n\nIndividually\, couples can decide to have smal
ler families\, for example to Stop at Two children to make a difference to
  population growth.
