DESCRIPTION:The density Hales-Jewett theorem has the same\nrelationship to
  the Hales-Jewett theorem that Szemerédi's\ntheorem has to van der Waerde
 n's theorem. Until recently\,\nthe only known proof was long and complicat
 ed and relied\nheavily on ergodic theory. Recently an elementary and much\
 nsimpler proof has been discovered. Unusually\, the research\nwas carried 
 out in the open by several people on blogs and \na wiki. This talk will\, 
 however\, be about the mathematics\nrather than the unusual process that l
 ed to it.
