DESCRIPTION:The Arctic is warming faster than average\, with multiple effe
cts across the region: from permafrost thaw to melting sea ice and glacier
s\, triggering extreme events\, threatening communities and changing ecosy
stems. These events have cascading impacts on the planetary system. Moreov
er\, Trump’s posturing over Greenland has brought wider attention to how
geopolitics is playing out in the northern polar region. The Arctic has a
long history of governance that focuses on Western science and the inclus
ion of Indigenous peoples\, although a persistent polycrisis marked by int
ersecting stresses continues to unfold. These geopolitical and climatic ch
ange events continue to redraw the networks of power in the Arctic. This c
reates opportunities for collaboration and diplomacy\, but also opens up n
ovel pathways to potential global catastrophe. What are the interactions b
etween the multiple risks in the Arctic? How can we mitigate them?\n\nThe
seminar has been organised in collaboration with the Scott Polar Research
Institute.\n\nWe are also holding a small sandwich lunch before the semina
r from 12.30pm also in Seminar Room B\, which all are welcome to join.\n\n
