SUMMARY:Pushing Spatiotemporal Boundaries: Multimodal Bioelectronic Interf
aces for the Nervous System - Vasiliki (Vasso) Giagka. Associate Professor

DESCRIPTION:Resolving the underlying mechanisms of complex neural function
s and associated disorders remains a major challenge in neuroscience\, lar
gely due to the difficulty in mapping large-scale neural network dynamics
with high temporal and spatial resolution. Interacting with the nervous sy
stem using a combination of modalities—electricity\, light\, and ultraso
und—offers a promising approach to surpass conventional resolution limit
 s. In this talk\, I will introduce our recent work on developing soft neur
al interfaces that operate seamlessly in a multimodal fashion for both in
vitro and in vivo applications. I will also briefly discuss our advances i
n medical-grade soft substrates and novel conformal encapsulation strategi
es for chronic neural implants\, addressing critical challenges in the lon
g-term stability and integration of neuroelectronic systems.
