DESCRIPTION:Many experts claim that recent advances in AI put artificial g
eneral\nintelligence (AGI) within reach. Is this true? If so\, is that a
good\nthing? Alan Turing predicted that AGI would result in the machines\n
taking control. I will argue that Turing was right to express concern\nbu
t wrong to think that doom is inevitable. Instead\, we need to\ndevelop a
new kind of AI that is provably beneficial to\nhumans. Unfortunately\, we
are heading in the opposite direction and we\nneed to take steps to corre
ct this. Even so\, questions remain about\nwhether human flourishing is co
 mpatible with AGI.
