DESCRIPTION:We will hear from speakers from BP\, who use a variety of tech
nologies to monitor closely the state of their pipelines\, which can be se
veral thousands of kilometers long\, and from Plextek who develop a number
of monitoring technologies. The speakers will talk about the issues and c
hallenges they face and future possible developments.\n\nSpeakers include:
 \n\nDr Norman Sanderson\, Advisor - Pipeline Technology\, BP\nNorman is a
mechanical engineer with a strong remit to develop technologies that enabl
e the interface between our pipeline systems and the outside world to be c
losely managed. This ranges from satellite surveillance through sniffer d
ogs to leak detection on pipeline systems\, and also includes detecting il
legal taps. The talk will include an overview of the major challenges in
his work and an invitation for attendees to suggest potential solutions.\n
 \nWill Gibson (pictured)\, Co-Founder of Telensa\, a new spin-out from Ple
xtek \nPlextek provides an electronics design and consultancy service\, sp
ecialising in product and system design for communications\, aerospace\, d
efence and medical applications. In January 2010\, they span out a new ve
nture\, Telensa Ltd\, that is focused on the commercialisation of a cost e
ffective wireless system for actively controlling\, monitoring and meterin
g large populations of outdoor street lights\, so they can be managed with
maximum energy and operational efficiency. Will's talk will highlight som
e of the challenges he's faced in applying known monitoring technologies t
o specific situations that arose in Telensa. \n\n\nTo register:\nPlease se
