DESCRIPTION:Symmetry\, regularity\, and beauty are qualities that we disco
ver in a plethora of natural shapes. Dr. Dan Lunn\, Fellow in Mathematics
at Oxford\, invites us to explore the mathematical patterns behind foragin
 g. Drawing examples from the growth of leaves\, starfish foraging for prey
\, and fungi foraging for wood on the forest floor\, Dr Lunn will demonstr
ate how mathematics can predict the most successful\, and hence most preva
lent\, patterns occuring in nature. \n\nBuilding a bridge between the real
ms of biology and mathematics\, this talk presents brand new research that
generalises the theory to other structures\, such as biofilms. Be among t
he first to hear what was found!\n\nEntry £2\, Free for SciSoc members
